¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ expands living-learning and theme communities with exciting new additions for Fall ‘25

The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ is expanding its Living-Learning Community (LLC) and Theme Community offerings with nine new programs launching in Fall 2025.

Students who choose to live on campus now have a total of 23 individually designed programs to engage in immersive, academic or interest-based residential experiences.

LLCs and Theme Communities at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ allow students to extend their education beyond the classroom by living alongside peers who share similar academic interests or personal passions. While LLCs focus on academic interests, offering faculty guidance and requiring a course, Theme Communities center on social themes without coursework, often partnering with student organizations to enhance campus involvement. These programs provide a residential experience where students live on the same hall, engage in shared coursework or activities and build meaningful relationships.

New LLC and Theme Community programs starting in Fall 2025 include:

  • Film: Open to all first-year students passionate about film, this community offers hands-on experiences, industry connections and lasting friendships with fellow film lovers.
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life: This theme community fosters unity, tradition, and collaboration among Fraternity and Sorority Life members, offering modern amenities and a vibrant, sustainable living environment.
  • Freshman Admit Nursing: Through shared living, collaborative learning and faculty mentorship, students will build a supportive network to thrive in their nursing studies and beyond.
  • Honors Horizon: A new initiative for upper-class Honors students to stay connected with the Honors community with minimal commitments.
  • La Casa and La Maison: Join a dynamic community, take Spanish or French courses and enjoy exclusive resources and activities supported by the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures.
  • Service and Leadership: This theme community is ideal for students passionate about service and leadership. Through hands-on projects, civic engagement and collaboration with campus and community organizations, students will develop your values, leadership skills and global awareness.
  • Sport Management: This LLC is ideal for Sport Management majors, club members and anyone pursuing a career in the sports industry.
  • Swoop Troup Theatre: This theme community connects students with shared interests and encourages participation in Jacksonville's theatre and performing arts.
  • USoar: An inclusive postsecondary education program for ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ students with intellectual disabilities (ID), offering academic, social, and professional support in a structured living environment.

Existing LLCs and Theme Communities such as ASL Zone, Coggin College of Business, Environmental Sustainability, Healthy Osprey, Hicks Honors, MADE, Music (now open to upperclassmen), ROTC, STEM, Stonewall, THRIVE, Transfer Living Community and Global Honors will continue to provide enriching experiences for students across disciplines.

Since the initiation of LLCs and Theme Communities at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ in Fall 2013, several programs have successfully fostered student engagement and academic success.

This year, the PreMed LLC was selected as the recipient of the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO) Academic Collaboration Award. This prestigious recognition highlights the outstanding partnership and commitment to academic excellence that make the PreMed LLC a valuable experience for students pursuing careers as medical professionals.

Students interested in joining an LLC or Theme Community must first complete a housing contract and deposit. They can then submit applications for up to three LLC or Theme Community options before the final deadline on June 6 for incoming first-year students. Upperclass students had a priority deadline of February 24, though some programs may still accept applications if space allows.
