ACCESS Academy: Let us give you a BOOST to success!
Access Academy is a skill building program offered through the Student Accessibility Center. The program offers students the opportunity to participate in “Boost” sessions in the following content areas:
Academic Strategies for College Success
This course offers four learning modules that emphasize the following areas:- Active reading – SQ3R and mnemonics
- Effective college writing and revision strategies - authorial identity, commentary starters, and avoiding plagiarism.
- Note taking strategies and resources including assistive technology, CUES+CC strategy.
- Test taking strategies, Test anxiety testing tips.
Organizational Skills and Goal Setting
This course offers four learning modules that emphasize the following areas:- Scheduling – Planning a study schedule
- Prioritizing your schoolwork using the 4-Square method of prioritization
- 10 steps to staying organized in college
- The GROW model (Goals, Reality, Options, and Way Forward) for setting goals
- Additional – 9 technology tips to support study skills
Strategies for Career Readiness
This course offers four learning modules that emphasize the following areas:- Soft skills for employability, networking for the job search
- Requesting reasonable accommodations in the workplace, self-advocacy strategies
- Cover letters and resume writing strategies
- Interviewing skills and practice, tough interview questions, and self-advocacy during an interview
- Additional – Employment resources for graduating college students.
Each Boost session meets one hour per week for four weeks. Students will be paid $200 for the successful completion of each Boost session.
