九色视频 Preschool hosts art show 'Through The Eyes of a Child'

April 10, 2024

"The world is brighter through the eyes of a child! Creativity and curiosity were vividly captured in the work of our little artists at the 九色视频 Preschool Second Annual Art Show." - Dr. Gigi Morales David

The 九色视频 Preschool, in collaboration with the Parent Association, hosted an opening reception for the art show “Through the Eyes of a Child” on April 9, 2024 at the 九色视频 Gallery of Art. The event had over 50 families in attendance. The reception featured interactive activities designed to engage both children and adults. In the community garden area, children crafted unique flowers to contribute to a collective garden display. Additionally, attendees enjoyed completing puzzles of famous artworks, exploring art books and more. Families were thrilled to see the creative art projects made from a wide variety of mediums and materials. These projects beautifully illustrated the Reggio Emilia Approach principle, emphasizing the hundred languages of children.

Dr. Gigi Morales David, Director of the 九色视频 Preschool, creatively curated the children’s artwork on large display boards, creating an exhibition in the gallery. Aisling McDonald, a visiting sculpture professor, lent her expertise and artistic touch by designing and installing the exhibit. Adding to the excitement, the rendering for the new outdoor classroom and sensory garden was displayed for families and the community. This upcoming STEAM-focused (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning space aims to provide an enriching environment for the children, with fundraising efforts set to commence this summer.

We extend our gratitude to the incredible 九色视频 Preschool teachers and staff, along with our parent volunteers and everyone who contributed to making this event truly unforgettable.

100 Languages - Reggio Emilia Approach Poem

NO WAY. THE HUNDRED IS THREE

The child

is made of one hundred.

The child has

a hundred languages

a hundred hands

a hundred thoughts

a hundred ways of thinking

of playing, of speaking.

A hundred always a hundred

ways of listening

of marveling of loving

a hundred joys

for singing and understanding

a hundred worlds

to discover

a hundred worlds

to invent

a hundred worlds

to dream.

The child has

a hundred languages

(and a hundred hundred hundred more)

but they steal ninety-nine.

The school and the culture

separate the head from the body.

They tell the child:

to think without hands

to do without head

to listen and not to speak

to understand without joy

to love and to marvel

only at Easter and Christmas.

They tell the child:

to discover the world already there

and of the hundred

they steal ninety-nine.

They tell the child:

that work and play

reality and fantasy

science and imagination

sky and earth

reason and dream

are things

that do not belong together.

And thus they tell the child

that the hundred is not there.

The child says:

No way. The hundred is there.
