Masters of Education (M.Ed.) in Elementary Education

Program Overview

The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is designed for certified teachers and experienced education practitioners. The program offers education professionals the opportunity to earn a non-licensure credential that is suitable for career advancement. Elementary teachers who hold professional teaching certificates and are interested in becoming elementary subject matter experts, coaches and/or teacher leaders can choose from several highly sought after endorsements and graduate certificates to earn as part of the degree requirements. The M.Ed. and the credentials can further enhance your marketability in the teaching profession.

The 30-credit program has a flexible, innovative curriculum allowing you to explore and continue to develop content knowledge, teaching methods and teacher leadership capacity. The program is built around the core tenets of research based practice and inquiry into student and teacher learning. These tenets are integrated throughout the coursework to strengthen connections between research and practice, preparing graduates to analyze and solve current issues in educational practice.

    • For elementary educators who entered through alternative pathways to teaching and are interested in bolstering their instruction related to Language & Cognitive Foundations for Reading, Principles of Instruction and Management, Foundations of Exceptional Education and Services, Principles Learning and Classroom Assessment, Applied Linguistics and Grammar; meets credentialing

Application Deadlines

Fall Term: August 1

Spring Term: December 1

Summer Term: April 15

The following items must be submitted no later than the deadline posted above. Incomplete applications with outstanding requirements, or those postmarked after the posted deadline, are subject to cancellation. Once an application has been canceled, the decision can not be reversed. Applicants may apply for the next application cycle.

  • University Requirements
    • A baccalaureate degree from an accepted institutional accreditor, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study.
    • Transcripts, and foreign evaluations if applicable, from all post-secondary institutions attended. Admitted students will be prompted to provide official copies.

    • Professional licensure
      • Applicants must hold a valid teaching license from any state or international equivalent
